From never-before-seen maps to various models, the latest Team Fortress 2 leak has given fans a lot to think about.
The biggest Valve has seen so far; the 61 GB leak includes various unreleased maps, models, PSD files (Photoshop source design) and VMF files (valve map format) for Team Fortress 2. The latter is a format that stores raw map data and is used to save maps and prefabs at the production stage.
While the exact source of the leak is currently unconfirmed, Richter Overtime shares some of its content Twitter (opens in a new tab)including what appear to be photos of these unpublished maps and models.
What’s new?
Looking through all the unreleased content, fans found some pretty interesting concepts. It seems like we could have had a capture the flag Dustbowl map that would have integrated all three stages of Dustbowl and even part of Goldrush. If sand isn’t your thing, how about a tier 4 tower with a teleporter on top?
The possibilities really seem endless. Fans could find a Bounty test map and even templates for the original powerful map. That’s all after a day of research and digging, so there’s bound to be more to find.

While I’ve given up any chance for a third installment in the Team Fortress series, there are still those who keep hope alive. With all these unused maps and data, why wouldn’t Valve choose to back up the series?
Unfortunately, despite all this content, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting a new Team Fortress anytime soon. It’s been almost 16 years since the release of Team Fortress 2, and Valve has never officially announced plans to create the next installment of the series. This is not a big surprise as historically the developer does not trade threes. Portal was shelved after two games, and Half-Life fans have been waiting more than a decade for the coveted Half-Life 3. So the possibility of TF3 seems very unlikely at this point.
All we can hope for now is that this content isn’t completely dead and buried. Even if the developer doesn’t want to create a new part of the series, all these unreleased maps and modes can be a very substantial and welcome update. But I’m not holding my breath.
